At Go Get Your Money, we believe that horse racing is more than just a sport – it’s a passion, a lifestyle, and a way to connect with the thrilling world of equine excellence. As an avid horse racing enthusiast, Anthony ” The Captain ” Theodore invites you to explore his insightful commentary that makes Horse Racing more of an investment than a gamble.

Anthony “The Captain” Theodore

I first was introduced to Del Mar back in 1977 with my dad Bobby Theodore. Being a 14 year old kid, everyday felt like I was in a Raymond Chandler movie.  I was treated not like a kid, but like a student studying life through the action of the track.

There was a quiet bald gentleman that was always there, his name was Charles Wittingham. Every once in a while, he would slip me a ticket. One day,  he asked me if I wanted to go to the paddock with him. As we walked in the paddock everyone was watching his every move. Over the next couple years, he would tell me what was wrong with a horse just by watching him stand in the stall.

One day after coming back from the paddock, Charlie waved me over to his table and said he wanted me to watch Bill Shoemaker ride his horse, and told me to just watch his hands, nothing else. It was then that I realized how much a difference there was between a good jockey and a great one.

Mr. Wittingham told me one thing that I will never forget about horse racing, “Kid, always remember this: you can beat a race, but you can’t beat the races. Pick your plays, not every race is beatable, there’s a race every 30 minutes and pick your plays only when you feel that you have advantage and always play FLAT BETS. You learn more by listening than by talking.”

I was asked recently at a seminar, “ What do you look at when you look at a race?”

1. Pace — Pace makes the race

2. Class — Class always prevails

3. Breeding — Know your bloodlines

4. Gelding — 1st race since being gelded can sometimes mean a total form reversal

5. Lasix — 1st time Lasix

6. Blinkers — Blinkers coming off a horse with speed going from dirt sprint to turf route

7. Front Wraps — 1st time in wraps

8. Workouts — Looking for a trainer to work a horse every 7 days

For the first 30 years I was an apprentice, and the last 17 years I’ve become a situational investor.I now want to pass on my knowledge to others like people before me. Please play responsibly.
